Lindsay Lohan is rebuilding her movie career, but she’s still a hit in the art world. Domingo Zapata has just sold a piece of artwork comprised of Polaroid pictures of Lohan for more than $100,000. Zapata, who shot the images in his studio at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, is believed to have sold the work through the Hus Gallery to a prominent British collector. The creation comprises four pictures of a platinum blond LiLo with a sultry look, and embellished with paint into an Adam and Eve story of original sin and the words, “An Apple . . . that I like . . . with a bite out of it. Adam and Eve changed mankind forever . . . started SIN . . . it was a plain simple apple hanging from a tree. Then the world changed for all of us.” Lohan was spotted with Zapata, who lives in the Bowery Hotel penthouse, as well as her sister Ali and brother Michaelshopping at Blue & Cream on the Bowery. Sources say Zapata picked up the tab for clothes for a “future shoot.”

To catch a glimpse of the unveiling of Celebrity Artist DOMINGO ZAPATA's "Dangerous Things" and get a peak of the VIPs in attendance, a whirlwind frenzy is the only way to describe the entrance to ZAPATA's biggest show yet!

More than 1,000 people crowded the door of the Delano Hotel Saturday night, Dec. 3, 2011, to attend what is being called the "HOTTEST PARTY" at Art Basel Miami 2011. Roberto Cavalli enjoyed the event from his private bungalow, while Billionaires like Ron Burkle, Hollywood celebrities such as Adrien Brody, Emmy Award winning Director Niels Arden Oplev, Victoria Secret Model Ana Beatriz Barros were just a few of celebrity guests amongst the star-studded crowd.

Guests danced to music by celebrity DJ, Nick Cohen, with daughter of the Rolling Stone’s guitarist Keith Richards, the beautiful Alexandra Richards at his side. Turning the shallow end of the Delano's glamorous pool into a dance floor, the party went into the late hours. Domingo Zapata snatched former boy band member, Lance Bass, out of the crowd to begin what turned into a spray painting festival. Guests began forming a line to be sprayed by Mr. Zapata, making their Versace dresses just that much more valuable!

Entering the Delano, white curtains blowing in the warm Miami breeze, guests viewed giant pillars wrapped in Zapata's monumental collection “Girls and Guns” featuring some of the most desirable woman, Pamela Anderson and Sofia Vergara, half nude with sayings like “Make Love, Not War” and “Love Kills Slowly” sprayed across their bodies.

Making their way through the hotel and down to the pool area, the show exploded with works by Lori Hyland glowing down the walkway. Giant Giraffe paintings placed in the courtyard and impressive Tiger pieces around the VIP cabanas led the way to the packed party! A gallery of Domingo Zapata’s mixed-media colleges and high-end bags, painted by Zapata, for a new line by famed designer Carlos Falchi, stunned the crowd at this poolside extravaganza. Zapata, in high demand, could be seen giving interviews and snapping pictures for the press while the crowd outside continued to grow and the party refused to slow down.

With a two-year waiting list and yet another sold out show, DOMINGO ZAPATA continues to prove that he is indeed a truly talented Celebrity Artist!

Haute Living Presents the arts of Domingo Zapata and Jordi Molla with Johnny Depp at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont

Posted By Jilian Sanz on October 12th, 2011

Yesterday evening, October 11, Hollywood’s famed Chateau Marmont had the pleasure of acting as the ultimate venue for a private, VIP viewing reception for artist, Domingo Zapata and actor/painter, Jordi Molla. Hosted by Haute Living Magazine and Bertaud Bélieu rosé, the posh event proved to be nothing less than spectacular.

Recently named one of Whitewall Magazine’s “Artists to Watch,” Zapata is garnering much attention after some 20 years spent creating art. In fact, Zapata, who keeps a studio at Marmont, has been a best-kept-secret among contemporary art aficionados for quite some time, selling out completely at private events such as resulted with his Polo series at a Hamptons Polo Club in 2005. This particular show, while maintaining true to his craft of producing figurative and abstract expressionist paintings in both oil and acrylics, as well as mixed media and collage, also acts as a platforms from which to unveil his first ever installation piece—a 12-foot long, illuminated sign reading ROCK STAR.

Zapata also shared the stage with Jordi Molla, the actor most credited with his amazing work in such blockbusters as Blow and Bad Boys II, as well as his most recent movie, Colombiana, co-starring Zoe Saldana. Molla, who has kept his artwork under wraps, used this opportunity to showcase recent works on canvas for the first time ever.

Of course, the stars came out in droves to support these talents as they celebrated art in true Haute Living fashion. Amongst some of the stellar attendees were: actor, Johnny Depp, artist, Mr. Brainwash, Jeff and Lori Hyland, Haute Living publisher, Seth Semilof, artist, Mohamed Hadid, actress, Katarzyna Wolejnio and artist, Antonio Del Prete.

The crowd enjoyed the works while sipping on in-crowd-favorite, Bertaud Bélieu rosé.

Last night at Chateau… Haute Living Presented Art Exhibit with Jordi Molla, Domingo Zapata and ADP.

Domingo Zapata- named an “artist to watch,” in a September 2011 editorial published by the acclaimed Whitewall Magazine, will introduced his new collection and his first installation piece. For over 20 years Zapata has built a body of work which varies significantly in motif, though consistently explores themes of sexuality, opulence, and vitality in his signature style. In this distinctive hand, Zapata layers fantasy and reality, luring the viewer into his potent, cosmically beautiful world. Known for his signature “Polo” series, which first gained him critical acclaim, this show will focus on some of the artist’s more recent themes including Spanish culture, American women, and the lifestyle of Los Angelos, where he maintains a studio in the Chateau Marmont. Examples of these works, such as Torero I, currently displayed in Cipriani New York, continue to grow in depth, scale and popularity.

Tuesday night marked a particularly special occasion, Zapata shared his first original installation, a 12 foot long, LED illuminated ROCK STAR sign, painted, collaged and brimming with the energy of the artist.

Good morning contemporary art lovers!
I went last night to this incredible event hosted by Whitewall Magazine and I had the good luck to discover Domingo Zapata! Zapata was born in Mallorca in 1974, he lives and works in NY. His huge and colorful paintings are made of oil and acrylic and often including mixed media such as pieces of newspapers, pictures of famous icons and collages.

When I first came in the studio I didn't know where to look! His paintings are full of symbols. We can easily say that is a perfect mix between street art and graff, figurative and abstract in the same time. Some symbols are recurrent such as elephants and bulls or planes and propellers. About planes and propellers he told us he was obsessed with light and air which is perfectly depicted in some of his paintings. Most of the paintings mix writing and painting which is interesting because you can stand in front of it and think about everything. Each time it's a different story. Zapata's work is joyful, spiritual, very sincere and authentic.

Great evening, great party and great guy! Well known for being involved in the music industry, here is the other side of Domingo's work! For those who wander in the Lower East Side, go to 237 Lafayette st cross with Spring. Exhibition will bring you into his world...

Whitewall Events hosted a fete over the weekend celebrating artist Domingo Zapata’s new paintings. On Saturday, April 16, guests braved the storm outside to view Zapata’s work in a storefront-style, SoHo studio. Munching on light fare while sipping champagne, wine, and cocktails, attendees got a first look at the artist’s exploration of collage and graffiti. Also on view was a sneak peak of the Zapata’s collaboration with the luxury handbag designer Carlos Falchi. One of fifteen limited-edition bags uniquely hand-painted by Zapata, was on display as a preview of what will be sold later this year at Saks Fifth Avenue. Mid-way through the evening, Zapata ramped up the mood by jumping atop one of the tables to the tune of “Eye of the Tiger.” With a spray paint can in hand, he pulled a tall, beautiful woman up next to him and asked her to turn around and started to paint her black blazer. Cheers were followed by more tunes from DJ Co from STADJ Model Deejays, who continued spinning late into the night.

Zapata has been a best-kept-secret among contemporary art collectors like George Soros for some time now. He has critical critical acclaim for his Polo series, which completely sold out at a private Hamptons Polo Club event in 2005. Zapata has gone on to show Parisud, Carmen de la Guerra, Société Générale Monte Carlo, the Fairmont Hotel Monte Carlo, and the Joffrey School of Ballet.

His new works’ subjects range from polo horses (now a signature motif) to matadors, and from flamenco dancers to elephants. Says the artist, “Polo horses remind me of my youth and love for horses. Bullfighting is a passion that I even practice when I go back to Spain at my friend El Litri’s estate (he is the best bullfighter in the world and one of the nicest people I know). He is my inspiration for this motif. The Flamenco series I owe to designer Vicky Martin Berrocal, one of my muses. She introduced me to the deep sounds and magic of Flamenco, the beautiful colors of Andalucia and the soul that is called Duende…that is the miracle of flamenco.”

These new paintings also shows Zapata’s recent experimentation with collage, inspired by street art and the city of New York. Says the artist of his foray into collage, “I am using a more urban approach with mixed-media, influenced by the streets near where I stay and the time I have spent in New York. I love using vintage posters and imagine what would happen to them if they were posted in the street. What would street artists do to them? How the weather might affect them.”

February 5, 2011 --
To those in the know of the most respected international artists in the field, Domingo Zapata is a name of great familiarity. Reigning in from Spain, Zapata's work is now seen in every corner of the wide art world.

As of February 2011, A hotly anticipated piece is to be exhibited on the upper level of the famous Cipriani eatery, located in the stylish district of Downtown New York. As many know, such renowned restaurants are notorious for their critique as to what art to display in their dining rooms. However, in the case of Zapata, no second thought was given when the decision was made to acquire his work.

The painting is a marvel to look at. It presents a smiling Buddhist monk, with beautiful inscriptions bordering the intricate etching. The prominent message being of peace, love and the divinity of spirituality, each bold powerful, yet effortless stroke represents so much more than paint on canvas. Colorful, exotic, fun and entirely expressive of Zapata's view of life, the piece speaks volumes without being loud, and successfully manages to impress onto the onlooker a peaceful disposition of serenity. The ancient traditions and life philosophies of the far east are brought to life in Downtown New York.

The work is an instant classic, and can be appreciated and wondered at many times over. It sets a tone that spreads beyond its new proud home in Cipriani, and will leave each fortunate patron with a lasting feeling of beauty.
