Zapata co-writes Macarena

IMC Records is celebrating a Fiesta Quinceañera Macarena with Los del Rio, Jon Secada, Oscar D'Leon, Dyango and introducing new artists Barullo and Myra among others. "It's been 15 years since Antonio Romero and Rafael Ruiz (Los del Rio) wrote "Macarena" what is known today as the biggest selling Latin Record in Music history" says Darius Jordi Lassus President and CEO of IMC Records, Inc. This year alone in the U.S. 400,000 Latinas will turn 15 and celebrate a Quinceañera party, a Quinceañera or Quince años is, in some Spanish-speaking regions of the Americas, a young woman's celebration of her fifteenth birthday, which is commemorated in a unique and different way from her other birthdays.

"The year that LDR (Los del Rio) made president Bill Clinton dance the Macarena and found themselves performing at the SuperBowl, there were no Latin Grammys, no MTV Tr3s, no People en Español, no VHUno and the American Spanish speaking community was not as big as it is today," says Darius Jordi.

This time around, LDR are back in the U.S. to celebrate 15 years of Macarena and their more than 40 years in the music industry with a brand new album, new sound and new songs. To that end, two time Grammy award winner Jon Secada has penned new lyrics in Spanish for Macarena and producer Scoop DeVille (Baby Bash, Snoop Dog) has remixed the track and given it a new Latin Urban vibe for a whole new generation of Macarena lovers.

"Macarena is as relevant as ever," says Domingo Zapata, chairman of IMC Records and co-writer of the new Macarena lyrics. "Fifteen years ago, Los del Rio released 'Macarena' which soon became the world's best selling single of all time," says Hollywood powerhouse entertainment attorney Peter Lopez, who brokered the Los del Rio deal with IMC Records. The song became the second longest running #1 and best selling debut single of all time in the U.S. The single spent 14 weeks at the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, one of the longest runs atop the Hot 100 chart history. At the time, Macarena also broke records by remaining in the Hot 100 chart for 60 weeks.

"The song is still as strong as ever, fifteen months ago a U.K. fan posted the video on Youtube.com and to date it has been viewed 4.6 million times," says Domingo Zapata. "To put it in perspective, last summer's Latin Billboard's # 1 was Enrique Iglesias "Dimelo" and his video in the same amount of time has been viewed 4.9 million times, and that's how relevant and current "Macarena" still is".
